Instead of testifying before Greek prosecutors Thursday to testify about their failure to show up at a mandatory drug test on the eve of the Athens 2004 Games, Greek sprinters Kostadinos Kenteris and Ekaterini Thanou’s lawyer submitted a joint statement in which the two reaffirmed they did not flee the drug test on August 12.
They also denied they falsified a motorcycle accident to delay facing drug testers a few hours later.
The sprinters had appeared before Greek prosecutors at the end of August.
But after a first round of testimony by sports officials, doctors and other witnesses, the prosecutors summoned Kenteris and Thanou to testify again.
