Greece’s Public Order Minister George Voulgarakis said Wednesday there was a wide market for Greece’s new expertise in security, after the country spent a record one billion euros and deployed half of its armed forces to safeguard the first Summer Games since the September 11 terror attacks.
Voulgarakis said, “we consider this vast experience as a product for export. It will, of course, be in line with the country’s foreign policy”.
He said his ministry had been flooded by inquiries from countries interested in areas including Olympic Games safety to financial crimes. “The image of Greece has changed. We are now considered as a country which is serious about society”.
Voulgarakis said the ministry was setting up a Planning and Research Centre to investigate ways of transferring know-how and training to other countries. “We are in a position to use this experience…and can be very proud of having organized the best Games in the past decades”, he said.
