Itar-Tass reports that Director of the Hydro-Meteorological Scientific Research Center, Roman Vilfand, told a press conference at the Itar-Tass news agency Friday that the probability of a good snow cover at the Sochi 2014 Games is much higher than in Vancouver.
Vilfand forecasts that the snow cover will be at least half a metre deep at the Krasnaya Polyana ski resort. He said, “the major competitions will be held at the altitude of 700-900 metres, and the average snow depth is about 60 centimetres in this area. Where the altitude is higher than 900 metres, more than a metre of snow is guaranteed”.
