Glasgow Delighted With Positive CGF Evaluation Report

Officials were delighted with the Commonwealth Games Evaluation (CGF) report of Glasgow’s bid for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Stewart Maxwell, Minister for Communities and Sport said, “I’m delighted that the Evaluation Report recognizes how much hard work and enthusiasm has gone into preparing Scotland’s Commonwealth Games bid. The report says that Glasgow has shown it has the ability to stage the 2014 Commonwealth Games to a standard which would continue to enhance the image and prestige of the Games.

“This is another hugely positive step which I hope will help Glasgow secure this once-in-a-lifetime event”.

Steven Purcell, leader of Glasgow City Council said, “this report backs up what we have been trying to say all along. Given the chance Glasgow will host the best Games the Commonwealth has ever seen. I am delighted that the Evaluation Commission recognized that all the infrastructure is in place or committed and that the bid’s finances are sound. They also recognized that our plans will leave behind a legacy for everyone in our city”.

Louise Martin, Chair of the Commonwealth Games Council for Scotland “we are delighted that the Evaluation Commission has recognized our ambition for Scotland to host an incredible sustainable and memorable Commonwealth Games in 2014”.

She said Glasgow 2014 has worked closely with the Athletes’ Commission to make sure that the Games were designed by the athletes for the athletes and said, “this has not been lost on the Evaluation Commission. They have recognized that we have looked at every detail of our Games – from venues to transport to culture – to make sure that should we win everyone who comes to Scotland in 2014 will have the performance and time of their lives”.
