Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games Village Revealed

The artists’ impression of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games Village was revealed Wednesday to residents of Glasgow. The Village is set to transform a run-down part of the east end of Glasgow.

A major house-building program will be complimented by a new 70 million pound National Sports Arena and Velodrome.

Bid CEO Derek Casey gave residents a glimpse of the bid’s contents which goes before the Commonwealth Games Federation on May 9, reports the Evening Times.

Glasgow 2014 bid organizers denied speculation that Glasgow could have an unfair advantage over its rivals because it’s socially disadvantaged. Casey said, “we have been open and transparent following all the rules laid down by the CGF and we will continue to do so”.

Casey pointed out that a great deal of the bid for the Games is on the legacy of past investment in the city. He said, “on top of that there is the infrastructure around the city, the M8, the M74, the regeneration route, Glasgow Airport rail link, the village itself”, which he figures is worth around 1.25 billion pounds.

If Glasgow hosts the 2014 Commonwealth Games there will be 17 different sports.
