A UK website reports the proposed 72 million pound Chris Hoy Velodrome for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games has taken a hit by the departure of Ron Webb, the specialist engineer who helped design the velodrome tracks for the Sydney and Athens Olympics, before construction of the project has begun.
Culture and Sport Glasgow, the council body overseeing the Commonwealth velodrome had no comment on Webb’s departure but inside sources reportedly cited “contractual issues”.
Webb’s departure comes as Glasgow City Council is preparing to put the project out to tender.
The 4,000-seat velodrome, also called the National Indoor Sports Arena, will be the venue for Scottish cycling and will host all the track cycling events for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
