Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Bid “Wonderful And Exciting”

The Evening Times reports that the five-member Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) evaluation commission visiting Glasgow this week to inspect the city’s bid, praised Glasgow as “wonderful and exciting”.

Monday the team visited Celtic Park, where the opening ceremony would be held, Hampden, Ibrox, Tollcross pool, the site of the new national arena and velodrome in the East End, and Strathclyde Country Park.

Over the next couple of days some of the venues the commission will inspect include the Games Village, Scotstoun, the Armadillo and Kelvingrove; and there will be 20 hours of presentations on everything from the venues to security and transport, reports the newspaper.

John Tierney, Chairman of the commission said, “we understand just how important it is to the people of Glasgow and Scotland to bring these Games to this wonderful and exciting city”.

He said the commission would look at legacy, political, legal and customs issues, as well as the venues and village arrangements.
