Officials from Halifax and Abuja, Glasgow’s two competitors for the 2014 Commonwealth Games, were in Glasgow for the inaugural Commonwealth Sports Development Conference, and toured the key sites of Glasgow’s bid, including the SECC, Hampden, Celtic Park, Scotstoun and Tollcross leisure centres, and Glasgow Green.
The Glasgow Evening Times reports the tour, organized by Glasgow’s 2014 Commonwealth bid team, allowed the rival bidders to assess the strength of the city’s bid.
A spokesman for Glasgow 2014 said, “the Commonwealth Games is known as the friendly games and we thought we would take the opportunity to extend the hand of friendship to our rival bidders.
“The delegates were given a full guided tour and were treated to some good old fashioned Scottish hospitality”, said the spokesman.
