German Sports Federation President Threatens To Resign

Two days before Leipzig 2012’s supervisory board meeting, Manfred von Richthofen, President of the German Sports Federation, threatened to resign over the scandalous business practices of Leipzig’s bid, which resulted in the resignation of three officials.

He told a Stuttgart newspaper that Leipzig’s entire supervisory board must ask itself whether Leipzig can continue its bid in good conscience.

He also criticized several sports officials including German Olympic Committee president Klaus Steinbach.

Leipzig 2012 will be submitting a report on the state of the bid at the supervisory board meeting Wednesday.

Meanwhile 4,000 people staged a peaceful demonstration Monday on behalf of Leipzig’s bid.
