German Olympic Committee Gets New President

By a vote of 69 to 56, former Olympic swimmer Klaus Steinbach has defeated incumbent Walther Troeger to become the new president of Germany’s National Olympic Committee. Troeger was president of the German Olympic Committee for ten years.

Steinbach’s first job is to decide who will be the German candidate for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games and to bring the Games to Germany.

Steinbach said, “I’ll do everything to fulfill this dream”.

Steinbach is 48, and an orthopedic doctor by profession. He led the German delegation at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
