HRH Prince Feisal Al Hussein of Jordan, founder and chairman of Generations For Peace, welcomed more than 70 delegates from 15 countries who will be taking part in a 10-day Generations For Peace program in Amman, Jordan.
Prince Al Hussein said, “the world is littered with conflicts – between nations, communities and factions within those communities. The reason you are here is to help do something to help promote peace and understanding in the regions that you know best – your homelands.
“The target for Generations For Peace is to reach 40,000 children by the end of the year, 250,000 within the next three years, and 6,000 adults as trainers and instructors. And that is why you are here”.
Generations For Peace was founded in 2007 and has held three successful international camps; two in Amman, Jordan and most recently in Abu Dhabi, UAE, bringing together leaders of youth from divided communities and training them to use sport to unite the young, said a press release.
Prince Al Hussein said, “you will become leaders, using your training here to help others to follow your lead and create a self-perpetuating program for lasting peace. You will no doubt face many challenges along the way – but I have no doubt that you will succeed in your task of helping the young people of the world to better futures”.
The delegates will enjoy interactive classroom sessions combined with practical sports covering rules and skills in three sports – softball, basketball and football. The curriculum stresses peace building; focusing on the need to build tolerance and understanding so that youth from communities in conflict can find common grounds rather than be divided by differences.
