The International Olympic Committee (IOC) reports that in a 24-hour period the 120-page Evaluation Commission Report for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games made available June 6 was the most sought after document in the history of www.olympic.org.
The IOC says 70,000 downloads were recorded by June 9, making it the most downloaded document ever, and the report, or parts of it, was downloaded 41,500 times in the 180 minutes following its release.
Robert Livingstone of GamesBids.com says in the first 24 hours of the report’s release almost 2,000 of the evaluation report downloads from Olympic.org were referred from a link provided on GamesBids.com. This shows how popular the 2012 Olympic bid race has become.
GamesBids.com was the first Internet site to break the news of the report’s release and the first Web site to provide a link to it.
Some members of the GamesBids discussion forum were able to retrieve copies several minutes before the scheduled release.
