The Senate Finance and Assembly Ways and Means committees have agreed to the funding through the state Commission on Tourism, of $125,000 a year, for a possible Northern Nevada bid for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games. The amount is $50,000 a year more than Nevada Governor Kenny Guinn recommended for the agency to prepare a possible bid for the Games.
According to the Las Vegas Review Journal, Tourism Commission spokeswoman Chris Crystal said the money will flow through the Reno-Tahoe Winter Games Coalition, which has been working on bringing the event to Northern Nevada.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will announce its winning bid for the 2014 Games in July 2007.
