Flu Prevents Rogge From Attending Vancouver 2010 Seminar

The Canadian Press reports that International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Jacques Rogge will not be attending this week’s seminar in Vancouver on the 2010 Winter Olympic Games because he has the flu.

Rogge said he was feverish and didn’t think it was wise to fly 15 hours from Switzerland to Canada.

Rogge said Tuesday in a telephone interview from IOC headquarters in Lausanne, “it’s not my style to abandon. In this case my illness is a little bit too strong. I have quite a lot of fever. It is not very wise to travel for 15 hours in a plane and come into a cold climate.

Rogge added, “I am far from being irreplaceable. My presence is absolutly not needed”.

The seminar will still go ahead with several IOC members in attendance.
