The first pre-Olympic event of Athens 2004 is the sailing test regatta which takes place August 16-23 at the Agios Kosmas Olympic Sailing Centre. The event will take place on the same dates as the actual Olympic competition in 2004 to familiarize organizers and athletes with the weather conditions during that time of year.
The regatta will be held in temporary facilities since work has not yet been completed on the Olympic Sailing Centre.
A second test event will follow in August 2003 to test the actual venue as well as all functional areas involved.
During the regatta Athens 2004 Press Services will be providing services similar to the 2004 sailing competition, but on a smaller scale. There will be a press area offering services to journalists and photographers with computers, printers, fax machines and telephones, as well as a press conference room.
There will be daily sports press releases during the regatta including statements by athletes and other interesting trivia.
