Federal Government Backs Moscow 2012

Moscow’s bid to host the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games has been given the full backing and financial guarantees by the Russian government following Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov’s signature on letters guaranteeing the federal government’s financial and organizational support for the Games if Moscow is selected the 2012 host city.

The guarantees cover all financial and other obligations related to organizing the Games, including full subsidies to the Moscow Organising Committee and the work of agencies that organize the Games and maintain the security of athletes and spectators.

Moscow 2012 also received the backing of all 28 international Olympic sports federations and associations for it’s Olympic River concept, proposed competition venues and non-sports facilities including the Olympic Village, Main Press Centre, etc., as well as the provisions for the city’s infrastructure to meet al requirements.

Meanwhile, the official public unveiling of the Moscow 2012 bid will take place during a ceremony at the Olympiisky stadium on November 16.

Muscovites who support the bid will be invited to join in the celebrations at Vorobiyov Gory and Manezhnaya Square. A live broadcast will link the stadium with the launch at the square and the fireworks display at Vorobiyovy Gory.
