Baku is hosting this weekend the first ever Azeri Eurovision National Final, to help the city promote its bid for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.
According to the Oiko Times, because of Baku’s “fantastic” historical sites, such as the Maiden tower (which has become the iconic symbol of Baku), it was made a World Heritage Site last year.
In a recent poll 91.9% of residents said they were in favour of Baku’s 2016 bid which the Oiko Times says is the highest approval rating of any of the applicants, most of which are in the 70s-80s percent range.
