Euro 2004 Arrests No Threat To London 2012

Leaders of London’s bid for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games insist the arrests of more than 33 Britains following a second night of rioting during Euro 2004 in Portugal will have no effect on London’s 2012 bid.

Bid communications director Mike Lee said, “obviously the behaviour of the fans abroad is always a matter of concern to everyone involved in sport in this country. We support the messages on this matter from UEFA and the FA.

“However, there is nothing to suggest the incidents that have occurred have any direct effect on the London bid.

“The London Olympic bid will be judged on our ability to deliver a great Games in 2012 and to provide a fantastic welcome to the world’s athletes here in this country”.
