Economic Study On Vancouver 2010 To Be Unveiled

The Province reports that an economic impact study on Vancouver’s bid for the 2010 Winter Games will be released at a press conference later today and according to Rod Harris, CEO of Tourism B.C. who has already read the new study “it’s all positive news”.

The study echoes a January report that projected billions of dollars in spin-offs from the Games.

Harris told The Province he hoped the new study will be considered by COPE councilors who have pledged to hold a referendum on hosting the Games.

He said, “any information that helps provide verification of the benefits gives the …opportunity to start to understand how significant the benefits are. Hopefully, that will satisfy a number of individuals”.

The initial report was criticized for not having enough detailed background information.

Sam Corea, spokesman for the bid said, “we’re looking forward to seeing the study. I know they’ve got new information from the Salt Lake City and Barcelona Olympics”.
