Dutch Architect To Build Beijing Broadcast Headquarters

Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas has signed a contract to build a 553,000 square metre structure which will be the new headquarters for Beijing’s official broadcaster China Central Television (CCTV) just in time for the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympic Games.

But it was unclear whether CCTV would draw on funds from China’s $37 billion Olympic budget.

Ole Scheeren, Koolhaas’s partner said, “clearly the ambition of this project was formulated in the context of the Olympics”.

The structure would be higher than any other building now in Beijing.
