Duesseldorf 2012 Welcomes Olympic Bid Evaluation Team

Duesseldorf’s mayor Joachim Erwin welcomed members of the German Olympic Committee’s evaluation commission who are visiting the city October 18 and 19 to assess the city’s bid to become the German candidate for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games.

Mayor Erwin discussed Duesseldorf’s enthusiasm for sports and told the team he hoped the Duesseldorf’s bid would get a fair evaluation.

Dieter Landsberg-Velen, head of the German evaluation commission, made it clear that the commission considers itself a partner of the German applicant cities. He said a goal of the commission is to provide the applicant cities with suggestions that would ensure that the city selected as the German candidate will be the one with the most international qualities needed to secure a German 2012 Olympics.
