Czech Minister Supports Sochi 2014 Boycott

Czech Minister Karel Schwarzenberg has voiced his support of an eventual boycott of the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games to protest Russia’s military intervention in Georgia.

Schwarzenberg’s comments follow Pennsylvania representatives Allyson Schwartz and Bill Shuster’s announcement earlier this month that they were planning to put a bill before the US Congress to strip the Winter Games from Russia and designate a new host city.

Schwarzenberg told Die Presse, “I believe that organizing such a sporting and peaceful festival in close proximity to an area where there have been massacres and military aggression is a strange idea”.
