Following a visit to the circuit, International Cycling Union (UCI) executives have described Madrid 2012’s proposal of organizing the start and the finish line of the Olympic timed event in the Olympic Stadium as brilliant.
The start and finish line of the Olympic timed event would be attended by 70,000 people, the conceived Olympic Stadium capacity, should Madrid host the 2012 Summer Olympic Games.
Races for men and women would take place the same day, August 12, in order not to disturb the Athletics program, which may be held during the second week.
The two executives were also satisfied with other aspects of Madrid 2012, such as the proximity of facilities in which the cyclist disciplines will be held – the Velodrome, the new BMX track, and the Olympic Stadium, all of them positioned in the Olympic Ring.
