The Globe and Mail and CFRB radio report that according to sources a CTV-Rogers consortium was awarded Canadian television rights Monday for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games and the 2012 Summer Olympic Games.
The newspaper reports that CBC Newsworld said it had been told by a CBC executive that the CBC had lost the bid, and another network confirmed the decision to The Canadian Press.
CBC’s Website said that according to sources “there was a wide disparity in the amount of money each camp was willing to offer”.
The winning bid will be announced officially at 3 p.m. EST at the International Olympic Committee (IOC) headquarters in Lausanne Switzerland.
Although the size of the winning bid was not disclosed, the Globe and Mail reports that speculation pegged it between $125 million and $150 million (U.S.).
