The Associated Press reports that the total cost of the Athens 2004 Games may exceed $14.6 billion, according to Greece’s 2005 budget submitted to parliament Thursday, which showed that the existing price tag of $11.6 billion might rise by another $3 billion.
Extra costs include infrastructure projects, including a metro extension to the airport and other indirect public sector expenditures not included in the Olympic budget.
The previous government had placed the cost of the 2004 Olympic and Paralympic Games at $5.9 billion.
