Community Of Madrid Supports 2016 Bid

The Parliament of the Community of Madrid approved Thursday an official statement of “determined and unconditional support” for the Madrid 2016 Summer Olympic Games bid.

Alberto Ruiz-Gallardon, Mayor of Madrid, attended the session to show “his deep gratitude” to the regional institution.

He said, “this official statement of the regional Parliament identifies the unanimous support that this Olympic bid receives from all the citizens of Madrid. It will be a very important factor for the strength of the Madrid 16 bid, especially when the Evaluation Commission, and later on the International Olympic Committee will decided which city is awarded the 2016 Olympic Games”.

Gallardon said, “today, on behalf of all the Madrid inhabitants, I want to thank our Regional Assembly for having approved this statement that means a reaffirmation of this dream that we share with all the citizens of our region and the rest of Spain”.

The official statement of the Parliament of the Community of Madrid affirms that “being the host city for the Olympic Games represents a great incentive in subjects such as infrastructures, sport venues, communications, technology and financial tourist and cultural promotion”. It adds that the Madrid society is “really advanced and has a great ability to organize international events”.

The statement continues “our region needs great sport events to ratify its level of development and the maturity of its social environment and institutions”. It also stresses that the Madrid 16 Olympic bid is a “dream which is shared by all the citizens of the region” and confirms that, during the last attempt, “the unanimous political and social backing was one of the main guarantees that our bid had, as it was admitted internationally”.
