Commonwealth Coordination Commission Praises Delhi 2010 Sponsorship Program

In its final visit ahead of the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games which takes place October 3, the Commonwealth Games Federation’s Coordination Commission (CGF), chaired by Honorary Treasurer Austin Sealy, received detailed presentations from the Organising Committee and its delivery partners.

The commission was also given reports from the various venue construction agencies on the progress of the competition venues, the Athletes’ Village, and other Games infrastructure projects, and visited the main venues.

Tuesday the commission praised the progress the organizing committee has made on the sponsorship program.

CGF CEO Mike Hooper said, “we were particularly pleased with the inroads being made in the area of sponsorship and the results achieved to date by the organizing committee and their appointed agent for the Games, Sports Marketing and Management (SMAM).

“With what has already been contracted, and what is currently at contract stage, the sponsorship program has almost eclipsed what Melbourne achieved in 2006. Melbourne was the most successful sponsorship campaign in the history of the Commonwealth Games.

“While the total currently sits at $74 million, the presentation today confirmed that there is a now very good prospect in a number of other key sponsorship categories. CGF is confident that the organizing committee and its marketing agent, SMAM, are doing everything possible to maximize opportunities from this market”.
