Commission Reviews Sochi 2014 Preparations

A high-level commission of 25 independent Russian and international Olympic experts completed a comprehensive five-day review Monday of the planned and existing infrastructure and venues of Sochi’s bid for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.

The delegation evaluated the facilities and will make detailed recommendations to bid officials and to Sochi authorities for the development of new sports venues which will serve as the basis for the Sochi 2014 candidature file should the city become an official Candidate City on June 22.

During the inspection of Sochi’s 2014 bid the commission studied the details of the plans for the construction of sports facilities, explored Sochi’s landscape and its region, and checked the quality of the planned Olympic lay out on site.

According to Sochi 2014 there were visits to each location of planned sports venues, inspection of the sites for the Olympic villages, a review of the multi-model transport plan and transport infrastructure, and several meetings with Sochi officials, administrators, professionals and facility owners to discuss the development of the infrastructure and venues.

Dmitry Chernyshenko, Sochi 2014 CEO said, “we are very impressed with the quality of the collective feedback and recommendations we have received to date from our guests and we look forward to further input. The involvement of the best local and international experts is critical to the development of our plans.

“This visit allowed us to gain invaluable insights and a 360 degree vision for our concepts. Not only does it guarantee that our Candidature File will comply with and even surpass the Olympic Family needs and expectations, but it creates the basis for an on-going dialogue between the experts and the local officials, as well as the professionals working on site on a day-to-day basis”.
