Sebastian Coe, head of London’s bid for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, says that London has “an outstanding chance” of winning the 2012 Summer Olympic bid.
He added, “my gut instinct is that the presentations are going to be important. Some members have openly said to me they will make their judgment on the presentations”.
A poll released Wednesday shows that 79 per cent of Londoners support London hosting the 2012 Summer Games.
London’s Mayor Ken Livingstone said Wednesday, “this poll shows that backing for our bid to host the 2012 Olympic Games have soared…and gives us a real boost as we enter the home straight. It also shows an overwhelming majority of Londoners see the capital’s diversity as one of the strengths. In London we literally have the world in one city. What better place to host the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games?
Coe was asked about reports of a possible alliance with Madrid. He said, “this is not an issue, not up for discussion. If you mean do I have a good relationship with the Madrid bid, then yes I do. But that’s historic – the former president of the IOC is a close friend. His son in the last year or so has also become a good friend. But I worked closely with all the bids…we have to know what is happening out there”.
