Buenos Aires, Argentina – After the Election of Thomas Bach as IOC President today, the Executive Board voted to award the title of Honorary IOC President to Jacques Rogge for his 12 years of service as IOC President.
John Coates (Australia) ran unopposed for the IOC Vice Presidency, a position vacated by Thomas Bach, and his candidacy was approved by a member vote of 70 – 12.
Anita DeFrantz (USA), Prince Tunku Imran (Malaysia), Richard Pound (Canada) entered an election to win Coates vacated Executive Board Position. Imran was eliminated after receiving the least number of votes on the first ballot and in a close finish, DeFrantz defeated Pound 41-40 on the final ballot.
Pound, who was Vice President under Juan Antonio Samaranch and previously on the Executive Board said of DeFrantz’s win “I’m sure she’ll do a wonderful job and I wish the President every success with the board he is now putting together.”
DeFrantz has also previously been Vice President and a member of the Executive Board.
