Gao Yu, deputy director of the Beijing Public Security Bureau, said China is beefing up security guard services for the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games. Security personnel will be trained and money will be invested in the sector, said Gao at the opening of the Beijing International Security Forum.
He said the experience of other Olympic host countries shows that the Games will boost demand for private security services and create new opportunities.
Private security guards work closely with police in Beijing, said Gao.
Beijing has recruited professional security guards and volunteers who will be responsible for checking audiences at sports games and keep order in the stadiums. Gao said regulations on private security guard services were being prepared and training manuals on manners and professional skills were being compiled.
Gao said Beijing has selected a group of “excellent” security guards. He said Beijing will use new technology, including remote video monitoring, to boost the effectiveness of the security guard sector.
