Marianne Limpert, a Canadian Olympic swimming silver medalist, doesn’t believe China’s crackdown on drugs is serious. In fact she thinks that Chinese world swimming champion Wu Yanyan, who failed a drug test, is being used as a sacrificial lamb.
Limpert and Nick Thierry, the editor of SwimNews magazine, believe there might be a connection to China’s bid for the 2008 Summer Olympics. They feel the Chinese might be trying to strengthen their image by showing they’re cracking down on drugs.
Thierry said “they’re trying to be holier than holy because they want the Olympics and there’s so much money involved”.
