According to the Financial Times China’s National Audit Office said in its annual report that China’s sports authorities have, since 1999, misused RMB131m ($16 million) of government funds earmarked for the 2008 Summer Olympic Games.
The report, posted on the Audit Office Web site, said Rmb109m of the funds were used to build apartment buildings for staff at the General Administration of Sports, one of the main organizers of the 2008 Games. The remaining Rmb22m was paid to the administration’s staff as bonuses or given to its affiliated companies as loans.
