China Launches Satellite For Beijing 2008 Games

Xinhua news agency reports that China launched a weather satellite Friday that will provide “quality” forecasts during the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games.

The satellite was launched from China’s Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwest China’s Sichuan province Friday morning and will monitor weather changes at all the Beijing 2008 venues around the clock and form a “twin-star observation system” with another meteorological satellite that was placed in orbit in October 2004.
