In anticipation of a “Green Olympics” at the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games, China and the United States have signed an agreement to jointly develop clean energy technologies.
According to the agreement both countries will strengthen cooperation in areas such as natural gas, water and fuel cells.
In its bid for the 2008 Games Beijing vowed to save energy and clean up the environment.
The two countries agreed to promote energy technology and “contribute to the resolution of long-term energy needs”.
U.S. Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham said China and the U.S. agreed to cooperate in the creation of 11 teams specializing in areas such as water, weather and traffic control, efficient use of natural gas, fuel cells and landscaping in Olympic villages.
