According to published reports, Chile plans on bidding for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.
Fernando Eitel, president of the Chilean National Olympic Committee in Santiago said, “it would be a great challenge, but the basis for a successful organization for the Games already exists with us”.
Eitel said various organizations and officials plan on working together to achieve the “dream”. He said the federal government and local authorities will be involved in the bid.
Eitel believes that Jacques Rogge, president of the International Olympic Committee, would like to see developing countries play a larger role in hosting the Olympics, giving Chile a good chance to win the bid.
