Chernyshenko To Head Sochi 2014 – Putin Promises Openness

Russia’s President Vladimir Putin informed International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Jacques Rogge, who was visiting Sochi, that Dmitry Chernyshenko, head of Sochi’s 2014 bid, will head the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games Organization Committee, and the Presidium of the Council for Sport and Preparation to the 2014 Games will be led by Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov

The council will include key ministers, representatives of departments and public organizations, reports Kommersant.com.

Interfax news agency reports that Rogge visited the planned sites for the 2014 Games. Putin told Rogge that Sochi still faced major infrastructure problems. He said, “we have to solve all of this as we prepare for the Olympics”.

Putin promised openness and transparency for the infrastructure construction when briefing Rogge on Russia’s preparation for the Games.

Putin said, “all the decisions on the construction of Olympic facilities and development of the infrastructure should rely on serious, profound, professional expert assessment and be adopted with maximum openness and transparency”.
