Chambers Elected COA President

Michael Chambers, an Ottawa lawyer and a volunteer with the Canadian Olympic Association (COA) for ten years, has been elected its president, defeating Doug Hamilton by a vote of 172-149.

Hamilton, head of the sites and venues commission for Toronto’s 2008 Olympic bid, had been the overwhelming athletes’ choice for the position.

Chambers has a sports background in canoeing, and Hamilton rowed for Canada at the 1984 and 1988 Olympic Games.

Bill Warren has been president of the COA since 1994, and decided not to run again. Chambers term as president is four years.
