American Barbara Cassani, 42, has been confirmed as head of London 2012 it was announced this morning jointly by the British government, the City of London and the British Olympic Association. Cassani, who spearheaded the budget British airline Go will take on the most influential position of the bid.
“I have taken this job because I know we can win. London is a world-class city. We can deliver a world-class Games” Cassani said on her appointment.
“This is a dream ticket for London’s Olympic bid” remarked London’s Mayor Ken Livingstone who was instrumental in the selection of Cassani for the position.
Cassani’s first task will be to appoint a chief executive for the bid and then she will spend two years trying to convince the world that London is the place to be for the 2012 Olympic Games. London is already behind its chief rivals in this regard as New York and Paris already have teams and marketing campaigns in place.
