It’s official. In a speech introducing Canada’s new budget, Canadian Finance Minister announced that the federal government is supporting a Vancouver-Whistler 2010 bid.
Earlier in the month a report said the federal government had agreed to spend $9.2 million on the initial phase of the 2010 Winter bid, and will commit a further $125 million if the bid is successful.
In Monday’s budget speech Martin said, “we know British Columbia will provide a magnificent setting, and we share the hopes and dreams of the people of Whistler and Vancouver. We will provide the funding requested to support their bid. If the bid is successful, we will do more”.
