The Globe and Mail, Canada’s national newspaper, announced Friday it has been named the Official National Newspaper by Vancouver 2010.
As National Print Media Supplier, The Globe and Mail, including its website, will have exclusive rights in the national newspaper publisher category for the 2010 Games. The partnership also provides The Globe and Mail with sponsoring rights for the Canadian Olympic Team for Beijing 2008, Vancouver 2010 and London 2012. The Globe and Mail will provide Vancouver 2010 with “enhanced national advertising abilities” through value-in-kind allocation of print and online features related to the 2010 Games.
John Furlong, Vancouver 2010 CEO said, “as the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games draw nearer, the international spotlight is turning to Canada, and The Globe’s national reach through advertising and promotion will help us generate excitement about the Games across the country”.
Meanwhile, to kick off national volunteer week in Canada April 27 to May 3, Vancouver 2010 began photo screening potential volunteers. During the next year thousands of 2010 Games applicants will be contacted.
Vancouver 2010 says the phone interview process is one step closer to becoming part of the 2010 Games. The first step was filling out a Games-time application and gaining access to the On Your Mark website, the official meeting place for potential volunteers to learn everything they need to know about volunteering, submitting photos, checking their application status and keeping track of the latest 2010 Winter Games information.
Donna Wilson, Vancouver 2010 executive vice president of workforce and sustainability said, “the telephone interviews are the ‘getting to know you’ process. “We want a better idea of why each volunteer applicant wants to be part of this experience and where their strengths are”.
The phone screen process extends though the end of 2009 and applicants will be notified when they have been scheduled for a phone interview. Successful phone interview candidates will then go through security checks and an in-person interview before joining Team 2010.
