Brussels Belgium has dropped its planned bid to host the 2016 Summer Olympic Games. The regional government of Flanders said the goal was unattainable and will instead focus its funds on preparing top-rate athletes.
Flemish sports minister Bert Anciaux said, “the visit to the Athens Olympics showed that organizing the Games are a dream in both senses of the word. Let’s be humble and invest (funds) on our top sports program”.
International Olympic Committee (IOC) head Jacques Rogge, a Belgian, had supported the idea.
