Britain’s Deputy Prime Minister and First Secretary of State John Prescott told a Sino-UK Construction Management Seminar in Beijing Tuesday that UK firms were keen to participate in building projects for the Beijing 2008 Games.
He said UK companies had considerable experience in designing and implementing world-class facilities for major sporting events.
Also addressing the opening ceremony of the seminar, Chinese Construction Minister Wang Guangtao said that Beijing’s successful bidding for the Olympics would produce many new construction projects for the city.
China welcomed more British companies to share in Beijing’s construction. Beijing’s Olympic Garden project was inviting bids from around the world. So far, 177 companies have responded, and project financing was progressing smoothly, said Beijing Mayor Liu Qi.
Meanwhile, The Dragon News has established a new portal, Beijing English Net, in preparation for the 2008 Games and China’s entry into the WTO.
The portal provides the latest information about historical sites, garden parks, hotels, transportation and other useful information for foreigners who live or travel in China.
