Both Koreas Could Host 2010 Games

If South Korea wins the bid for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, it is considering letting North Korea help to organize them.

Associated Press reports that South Korean Unification Minister Jeong Se-hyun said Seoul was considering working with North Korea on the Games.

He said, “I have heard that if North and South Korea show some reconciliation it would be good for hosting the 2010 Winter Olympics. We will positively consider active cooperation in that direction”.

Meanwhile Kim Ryong Sung, North Korean chief delegate to Cabinet-level talks between the two countries being held in Pyongyang, North Korea, said, “we join our people’s concerted efforts to do our best for Pyeongchong’s winning of the bid”.

He was quoted as saying, “jointly holding the Winter Olympics will be a good chance to show our nation to the international community. So, let’s positively consider it and work together to help make a good decision on the location through North and South cooperation”.

South Korea’s Vice Minister of Culture and Tourism Oh Jee-chul said, “I am confident that North Korea’s full support will have a positive effect on undecided (IOC members’) votes”.
