Borjomi 2014 Logo Unveiled

Following a design competition for Borjomi’s 2014 Winter Olympic bid logo it’s been announced that Georgian journalist and designer Paata Natsvlishvili was selected the winner.

According to the official Borjomi 2014 Web site the logo is based on a thorough study of the logos of dozens of Olympic or applicant cities completely in accord with the style of Olympic symbols, but bears no similarity with any other symbol previously used.

It represents the form of a fir tree. Fir and pine woods are the symbol of the dominant environment feature of the Borjomi region.

The pyramid in the form of a fir tree is perceived as a graphic representation of continuous aspiration to victories in sports, says Borjomi 2014. The logo colour gives the impression of a decorated Christmas tree, which “denotes the festive and joyful atmosphere of the Olympic Games”. All five colours used in the logo indicate its Olympic nature.

Distinctive elements of the logo include the curve of skiing, tobogganing and bobsleigh tracks. The logo also reflects trampling skiing, the form of a figure skater making a turn while dancing, a hockey puck, etc.

According to the Web site the Georgian letters serve as a cryptic code because the Georgian Alphabet, unlike the majority of other alphabets, but like Greek, Jewish, Japanese or Armenian, belongs to only one country. “Therefore, this inscription contains information not only for the Georgian speaking community, but it also represents an extra key for the logo identification.”
