Bookmaker Says Money Is On Paris, Rio For 2012 Olympics

Australian-based Centrebet (www.Centrebet.com), the only online bookmaker to correctly pick Vancouver as favorite to win the 2010 Olympic Winter Games has chosen Paris as the likely winner for 2012.

Paris earned 6-4 odds followed by London at 2-1 and Rio de Janeiro at 6-1.

“Rio is emerging as the biggest threat to Paris securing the 2012 Olympics,” says Centrebet’s Mark Worwood, an Englishman who lived in London for five years and knows about the city’s inadequate infrastructure. “Better bids than London’s bid are longer odds for no reason other than the British bid’s prestige.”

Centrebet reports that “excellent money” is coming in for Rio improving its odds from 20-1 six months ago.

Earlier this week, GamesBids.com released the BidIndex mathematical model that compares bids with successful bids in the past. Paris, Rio, and London all scored high while Istanbul, New York and Madrid trailed marginally.

Centrebet’s Odds for the 2012 Bid
6-4 Paris
2-1 London
6-1 Rio de Janeiro
7-1 Madrid
8-1 New York City
16-1 Istanbul
16-1 Leipzig
