According to Swiss Radio International (SRI), the Swiss cabinet is giving Berne 2010 300,000 Swiss Francs ($187,000 U.S.) in its bid for the 2010 Winter Games.
The Berne bid is to be submitted to the Swiss Olympic Committee on Friday reports the Xinhua News Agency. If the bid is deemed valid, the dossier will be forwarded before Monday’s deadline to the International Olympic Committee in Lausanne, Switzerland.
SRI reports that Bern and Montreux plan to spend 12.5 million Swiss Francs (7.8 million U.S.) on their bid over the next 12 months, with the bulk of the money coming from sponsors, while cantons and communes will inject 700,000 Swiss Francs ($430,000 U.S.).
And should Switzerland win the right to host the 2010 Winter Games, bid organizers say they will ask the government for 79 million Swiss Francs ($49 million U.S.) to cover infrastructure costs and to act as a deficit guarantee.
