You’ve heard of painting the town red…how about green?
Workers in Beijing are spraying the city’s brown winter grass green, just in time for the International Olympic Committee’s evaluation commission’s visit to the city next week.
And, according to TO-Bid’s ambassador-at-large David Adam, part of Canada’s trade mission to Toronto, all the buildings along the main route from the airport to downtown Beijing have been given a fresh coat of paint.
Adam adds that shrubs trimmed to look like various Olympic symbols have been strategically placed around town, especially near the hotel the IOC will stay at next week.
Bob Richardson, TO-Bid’s Chief Operating Officer, also in China with the trade mission, said “there’s no question that they have strong backing from the state. There are literally hundreds of people cleaning up the highways and planting flowers. There’s a veritable army of people out there. We’ve got a great number of volunteers in Toronto, but we certainly don’t have the Red Army,” laughed Richardson.
