Tickets for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies for the Beijing Paralympic Games being held September 6 to 17 are selling well, Tang Xiaoquan, executive vice president of BOCOG and vice president of the China Disabled Persons’ Federation told a press conference Sunday in Beijing.
He said, “so far, more than 480,000 tickets have been sold, 32,000 of them to disabled spectators, their families and friends”.
Of the 1.66 million tickets available for the Paralympics the best seats will go to disabled spectators, according to Zhao Chunluan, chief of the Beijing Disabled Persons Federation. He said the price of the tickets has been kept low, from 30 yuan ($4.40) to 80 yuan, and people can book through the official website at www.tickets.bejing2008.cn until September 14. All the tickets will be sold on a first come, first serve basis.
Twenty per cent of the tickets have been set aside free of charge for the Paralympic Education Program.
The logos of the Paralympics, “Sky, Earth and Human Beings”, are now replacing the Olympic logos.
Zhang Qiuping, director of BOCOG’s Paralympic department said Monday, “all departments concerned are ready for the transformation work and we are confident of staging another successful Games”.
Four thousand athletes are competing in the Games.
Meanwhile Beijing Olympics’ IT systems are also being modified. The IT team led by Atos Origin, Worldwide IT Partner to the International Olympic Committee (IOC), will set up new systems and run quality control checks.
