Beijing Games – Tourist Website, Unsold Tickets

Those who want to attend the Beijing Games next month, and don’t have tickets, should be aware there are some available. The People’s Daily reports that as of June 12 when the third phase of ticket sales ended there were more than one million tickets left. The fourth phase of ticket sales is expected to start in late July. They will mostly be for Olympic sponsors, all National Olympic Committees, and on-site audiences.

Most of the unsold tickets are for soccer competitions in the four co-host cities – Tianjin, Shanghai, Qinhuangdao and Shenyang. Also included are 20,000 tickets for special venues in Beijing such as the Bird’s Nest. All these tickets will go on sale at the competition venues.

To help you plan your trip a Beijing municipal government-run website was launched Wednesday for athletes, referees, officials, journalists and tourists to help them find restaurants, shopping centres and entertainment venues during the Games. The website, www.bj2008guide.com, is in Chinese and English and lists about 2,066 restaurants, 855 shops, chemists and supermarkets, 90 museums, 49 cinemas, 116 fitness centres and 227 bars.

There is also information on 31 Olympic venues and 112 star-rated Olympic hotels.

The Beijing Municipal Bureau of Commerce recommends 22 distinctive business streets in Beijing which are shown on the website.
